Who is this dental whizzkid?
I am Fiona Perry (GDC 3030).
I work under Healthcare Improvement Scotland and General Dental Council. I qualified in 1985 from Kings College, London, have 30 years experience as a dental hygienist, and I have seen Dentistry evolve over the years.
The idea of Flying Smiles was brought to life through my passion for dental hygiene and care for my patients. Over the years, I have met so many people who have expressed the difficulties which their loved ones have when attending dental appointments: time, mobility, cost, and illness. I became a member of the Care and Wellbeing Cooperative because their ethos mirrored my vision.
The Government (Oral Health Improvement Plan 2018) recently showed that there is a need for care in the community when access to a dental practice is not practical.
There is a real need for a more accessible method of delivering good quality dental hygiene. This will suit patients’ needs, which can be delivered at a suitable time and place.
I have taken on this ‘toothbrush’ torch and have started running a mobile dental hygiene unit – Flying Smiles – the first private mobile dental hygiene service in Scotland.
Flying Smiles enables you to help yourself. Through listening and gentle coaching together we plan how you can maintain your dental health. We can then celebrate together with a big clean smile (and a chat, a laugh, a cuppa and a wee piece of cake!)

I am a marvellous Mummy to a teenager, a wonderful wife to James (a linguist/musician), and dog owner to daft old Bramble!
I love nature and being healthy enough to enjoy it. I believe it is very simple to take care of your body, and your body will take care of you!
You may have seen me out and about on my bicycle or teaching the primary children bike ability.
